Cronologia: Idade Contemporânea (finais séc. XIX-XXI)
Chronology: Contemporary Age (late 19th century – 21st century)

Right next to the building of the Municipal Library is the Lagoa Municipal Archive; construction work on the building in which it is housed today started in 1887, and for half a century it functioned as a water tank to meet the town's needs, especially during the summer, and to channel water from Poço Partido for cleaning the stall counters at the market that was under construction. After a long period of disuse, it was converted into the Municipal Library, which operated there from 1983 to 1997. In 1999, the Municipal Council had it turned into the archive, which was opened on 6th September 2002. The documentation that was initially deposited in the Archive had been stored for two decades in the rooms of the Convent of S. José; the documents held by the Archive include, in addition to documentation of the Municipal Council that had been accumulated, a significant and valuable collection (documentation from the Municipal Administration, from local companies and associations, religious organisations and other administrative bodies at district level, as well as from different family collections).
The main features of its façade, which is divided into four sections, are the semi-circular arches separated by pilasters and the balustrade parapet surmounted in the middle by a statue of a woman. Inside, there is a whole history waiting to be discovered of the city that was once a town, and of the land that makes up the municipality.
