Cronologia: Idade Contemporânea (séc. XVIII-XX)
Chronology: Contemporary Age (18th-20th century)

In Porches, there are some of the most beautiful chimneys in Algarve. They enchant us mainly by the enigmatic traces, being one of the trade images of the town. This is the case of the chimney dating from 1793 and that gives name to the street (Rua da Chaminé), but the one that was called Ex-libris of the Village, built on the secular house as if it was a miniature tower. Its reliefs involve some mystery in the top crowning with pinecone shapes, on the circle of crosier edges, on the wheel of curious rays, in intriguing human figuration. On Rua Padre Gregório Cabrita there are others, probably also from the 18th century: one that presents four sides that rise by the cracks torn in the vertical, showing in the base four circular eyebolts, one in each side, and another, on top of the building of the restaurant O Leão de Porches, which shows a lion crowned with vine leaves. These are the most emblematic, but if you notice the roofs of the houses, you will surely find others worthy of your attention.
