Dedicada a Nossa Senhora da Luz, a Igreja Matriz de Lagoa remonta a meados do séc. XVI, porém são escassos os vestígios da primitiva construção manuelina dada a destruição provocada pelo terramoto de 1755. Um dos elementos que subsiste é o portal lateral, de acesso à torre sineira, com o seu arco de volta inteira com colunetas encimadas por capitéis. A reconstrução da igreja, iniciada pouco depois, reflete influências neoclássicas na imponente fachada com vãos encimados por frontões triangulares constituída nos inícios do séc. XIX. Já a atarracada torre sineira remete para o barroco. Entre o diversificado património artístico-religioso realça-se o magnífico retábulo em talha dourada e polícroma da Capela-mor e onde figuram imagens de São Sebastião e Nossa Senhora da Luz, a última atribuída ao escultor Machado de Castro. Dignos de referência são ainda os relicários e imagens do séc. XVIII, como a do menino deitado numa cama de madeira ao gosto rocaille, ou alfaias litúrgicas como a naveta (vaso) de prata ou o arcaz (móvel) em madeira do Brasil.

Dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Luz (Our Lady of Light), this Church dates from the mid 16th century, although there aren’t many traces of its first Manueline construction due to the destruction caused by the earthquake in 1755. One of the lasting elements is the side portal, which leads to the bell tower, with its round arch and small columns with capitals. The church reconstruction, initiated not long after, reflects a neoclassical influence present in the façade of triangular pediments built in the beginning of the 19th century, but its bell tower has a baroque influence. Among the diverse religious and artistic patrimony. We highlight the magnificent polychrome and gilded wood retable of the main Chapel, with images of Saint Sebastian and Our Lady of Light, the latter from the sculptor Machado de Castro. Also worthy of note are the relics and images of the 18th century, like the one of Jesus lying on a wooden bed in a rococo style or the incense silver boat (vase) and the wooden chest from Brazil.
